The Strange, a Tabletop RPG by Bruce Cordell & Monte Cook

If you followed, backed, have played or just heard about the amazing game (Numenera) that Monte Cook and his team made last year then you're in for a treat! Monte, along with Bruce Cordell, have recently started a new Kickstarter for a new game, The Strange.

The Strange uses the cypher system of Numenera and from what I've read it sound awesome! Or strange I should say. Ha! Ha!

If you were part of the Numenera Kickstarter you know MCG has a lot of fun, exciting stretch goals. Which they are already tearing through. Go check out The Strange Kickstarter and visit The Strange website.

I missed out on the Numenera Kickstart due to personal reasons but I'm really hoping to be able to back this project. Monte Cook and his team always put out the best games!

Board Game Design Update!

Just a quick post today.

While cleaning up my laptop I came across the folder that had all my notes for the board game I was designing last summer (which has since been put on the back burner). I actually last posted about it here. After reading through all my notes and also taking a look at the thread I had started on the forum I mentioned in the old post, I started getting really excited about the game again. I feel like I have a better understanding of how it all works. (Amazing what a little time will do!)

Now that I have an iPhone (the brand has nothing to do with it) and Evernote I'll be able to keep notes on the go. I've already added 4 not long after reading everything. Though since I'm getting married in a week I probably won't be getting to do much for a week or two.

As I mentioned in the post from September if everything goes well (designing, playtesting, etc, etc.) I really do think I'll make a Kickstarter out of it. BUT if that does happen I have every intention of fully planning it out before I ever even long into Kickstarter. There is no way I will go into it and mess it up!

Anyways I'll post any updates as they come up!

Update on the Numenera Kickstarter by Monte Cook

I posted once before about this Kickstarter project and decided to do so once again. Monte Cook has made a science fiction role playing game called Numenera and started a Kickstarter to help fund it. And as of right now it has 6 days left and is at a current total of $298,016! Which is amazing because at the start Monte asked for only $20,000 to fund the project.

Not only is the shear amount of money being raised for this amazing but so are all the rewards you get with the stretch goals. Which are coming and going quickly. You can check the project page in the morning and again at night and see that at least one if not two stretch goal have been passed.

Plus you get so much cool stuff for a great price! I'll list below a couple of the popular backer levels so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about! (P.S. the amount pledged just went up $100 since I started writing this.) (sorry make that $160) (again sorry. that's $220) (one last update before I publish this. The Kickstarter raised $415 dollars since I started writing this!) (as I had to do some formatting adjustments the total amount it went up $670!)

ULTIMATE EBOOK FAN $50 Level
App (Android, iOS, or PC)
Name in the back of the corebook
Numenera Player's Guide PDF
Numenera Corebook PDF
Exclusive Kickstarter supporter adventure (The Nightmare Switch) PDF
The Devil's Spire 32-page adventure PDF
The Mechanized Tomb 32-page adventure PDF
The Other Side of the Maelstrom 32-page PDF
The Ninth World Bestiary 160-page PDF
Sir Arthur's Compendium 160-page PDF
Numenera 3D Paper Fold-Up Terrain PDF
GM's Screen PDF
Cypher, Creature, and XP Deck PDFs

THE REAL DEAL $60 Level (+$10 for shipping outside North America)

App (Android, iOS, or PC)
Name in the back of the corebook
Numenera Player's Guide PDF
Numenera Corebook PDF
The Devil's Spire 32-page adventure PDF
The Mechanized Tomb 32-page adventure PDF
The Other Side of the Maelstrom 32-page adventure PDF
The Ninth World Bestiary 160-page PDF
Sir Arthur's Compendium 160-page PDF
Numenera 3D Paper Fold-Up Terrain PDF
GM's Screen PDF
Cypher, Creature, and XP Deck PDFs

Those are two of the levels I can't decide between. I really think the only difference is the additional $10 to get the Corebook in print. And it looks like the Real Deal doesn't get the exclusive adventure. Now there are a TON of other backer levels with varying amounts of cool stuff. I know some of the higher levels will have physical copies of the Cypher, Creature, and XP decks as well as the adventures, bestiary, compendium, player's guide, and GM screen. But I'm okay just a PDF and printing my own for now. But go check out the page and get in on something really cool. More money and awareness raised for Numenera means the further Monte can expand the series!

Oh and I nearly forgot to add that Monte added the option to pay via PayPal if Kickstarter isn't your thing. From the Numenera link I posted above you will find the PayPal option in the left sidebar. It has all the same reward levels listed with its own PayPal button. This just shows how much of an awesome guy Monte Cook is! Thanks Monte for putting together such a great game and fun Kickstarter!

Numenera: A new roleplaying game from Monte Cook

I plan on backing this project on Kickstarter as soon as I have the money to do so. Because Monte Cook is awesome. And it's a game that he has made himself. From what I've read on his site and on the Numenera site it seems like a fun game. I like his take on experience points and the such. Check out the sites and the Kickstarter and if you like role playing games please back the project. It's already far over the initial goal and quite a few stretch goals have been passed.

For $50 you get the following:
App (Android or iOS)
Name in the back of the corebook
Numenera Player's Guide PDF
Numenera corebook PDF
Exclusive Kickstarter supporter adventure (The Nightmare Switch) PDF
The Devil's Spine 32-page adventure PDF
The Mechanized Tomb 32-page adventure PDF
The Other Side of the Maelstrom 32-page adventure PDF
The Ninth World Bestiary 160-page PDF
Numenera 3D Paper Fold-Up Terrain PDF

Plus if it gets to $220,000 Monte will write a 96 page book on technology. Which I understood was similar to a items book.

Watch the video from the project site and go check it out more if you are interested. In the least passing it on would be great too!
