First Comic Wednesday! (SPOILERS)

So Wednesday (2 days ago) was my first comic Wednesday ever! I've been reading comics from friends and stuff but finally decided to jump in and get some too!

This week I got Batman 25, Star Wars 11, The Walking Dead 116, Sons of Anarchy 4 (for my father-in-law. But I did read it!) and Manifest Destiny 1.

Of course Batman is amazing! Snyder and Capullo are one of the best comic teams I've come across. And Zero Year is getting better and better!

I haven't read Star Wars yet. I'm actually behind a few issues on that one. But so far it has been amazing! Brian Wood is also one of my favorites.

The Walking Dead is so INTENSE! And shit is getting out of control! I LOVE IT!

Manifest Destiny is a new book about the Lewis and Clarke expedition. They have to fight the monsters in the wilderness.

At the end of the first issue a horse/man come bursting out of the woods and tramples a soldier. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. I really like kind of alternate versions of history. Or perhaps its real history that was never revealed! I mean in the issues Lewis writes in his journal that President Jefferson is possibly off his rocker. But he then crosses it all out and says that  he was right to send them on the expedition!

iPhone 5c

You may be wondering if iPhone 5c is worth getting. If you have iPhone 5 then it's probably not worth upgrading. But if you've never had an iPhone or are upgrading from a 4 or 4s, then yes! 

After reading a dozen reviews and scouring apple.com it seems iPhone 5c is effectively the same phone as the 5. Only with a few minor changes. Obviously the exterior has had a MAJOR overhaul but the internals are basically the same.

Both have the same 8mp camera, both have Apple's A6 chip, same screen, and the same features. Though it seems the 5c has a slightly longer battery life (10 hours talk time on 3G vs 8 hours on the 5).

The big change is the design. iPhone 5c is has steel reinforced frame with colorful, plastic backing. The plastic comes is 5 colors (was the number of colors tied to the iPhone "5"?) They come in white, pink, yellow, blue, and green. While the 5 was more squarish the 5c's back is curved. And the 5c also only has one speaker on the bottom of the phone.

The volume buttons match the back in color but they are bar shaped as opposed to the circular of the iPhone 5.

You may be skeptical about the plastic backing but everything I've read makes me believe that its a sturdy phone. Unlike your traditional plastic phone iPhone 5c seems to be quite hefty. Now I haven't had the chance to actually use one but I have faith in the people who's reviews I read/watch.

The phone only comes in 16gb and 32gb. But at prices of $99 and $199, respectively, I think it is definitely worth getting!

Updating the Future

I've neglected my poor old blog for almost two months now. Everything has been so crazy with wedding stuff and work and cars deciding not to work and all that fun stuff that we call life.

I'll be getting back into this more often now. Because honestly does it not take only a few minutes to write a quick post? Perhaps a bit longer for a more detailed post, such as a review (I'll have one of those up within the next week.) I've also started playing Dungeons and Dragons again (or will be soon). So expect to see posts of that nature too.

I've also been getting back to writing. And, well, yeah. That's self-explanatory. I'll be posting a bit of this and a bit of that perhaps. Ideas, progress reports, snipets of chapters, etc.

I also plan on just giving my thoughts on things. TV shows (old and new), Movies (old and new), games of all sorts (table top, pen and paper RPGs, board games, video games), anything tech related that I come across, anything science related, etc, etc. They most likely won't be an episode by episode reviews like I've done before (for TV) or even opening weekend movie reviews (I didn't see Man of Steel until two weeks after it opened). So basically I'll be doing reviews here and there as I come across and experience things. Mostly nerdy things as is happens to go.

One other thing that I've been doing lately is world building. Back in the day my friend and I had attempted to "catalog" a whole fantasy nation. Meaning this: we each drew a map, combined the two maps to make one land, placed landmarks (mountains, forests, etc) and then cities. We had a hard cover sketch book in which we would pick a city and draw a city map for it. Then on the following pages we would go through and draw the floor plans for each shop and building. Labeling what was in it. Who owned it. Etc, etc. I think we put stats for DnD too. But over the years the book has disappeared but I recently purchased a new one and we already have the land map drawn up. Expected updates on that too!

And I'll be posting wedding updates too as that nears (2 months away and we have a TON to do!)

Product Review: Henge Dock Docking Station for MacBook Pro 13"

This dock is pretty awesome. It basically makes your MacBook into a desktop (though you'll need the monitor and mouse already!) Just hook it up to the monitor and dock your MacBook with it and BOOM! Simple. You have even hook it up to your TV for a full cinema experience. That one aspect alone makes it a great product. Plus it saves on tangled cables (a problem I have now!) Another bonus is it how appealing it is to the eyes and space saving.

Product Review: Hama Camera Bag

This camera bag was pretty great over all. There is one large main pocket for the camera, a small zipper pocket on the front flap, and a pocket on either side that velcros and snaps closed. It comes with a shoulder strap but also had a handle on top.

The clasp on the front is VERY secure. It's actually a little difficult to open at times but there hasn't ever been a time that I haven't been able to get it open. The strap hangs down about 1.5-2 feet or so. Which is a perfect length. It's also adjustable and can be unclasped from both ends in the even that you want to remove it.

The inside is very well padded and has a removable velcro insert so you can adjust to snugly fit your camera.  It's fairly roomy if you don't have a massive camera with the big lenses. I tested it with a Nikon Coolpix L610 and I could have probably fit 2 of them in the case with the insert in too.

The zipper pocket on the front flap is about 2in by 3in, though the opening seems slightly small. The two pockets on the sides both have velcro (for easier access) and button snaps for a more secure closure.

This camera bag is very well made and very durable. The outside material looks like it would be rough but it is actually very soft. I actually love this bag and highly recommend it!

Product Review: Targus Clamshell Case XS

I recently got a tablet so naturally I've been looking for Galaxy Note 10.1 accessories. I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to review a very nice case from gearzap.com. The Targus Clamshell Case - XS is the perfect case for when I'm taking my Galaxy Note 10.1 where just the sleeve won't do.

It's a pretty standard case. There is a large main pocket that holds a tablet (or netbook or small laptop) anywhere from 10"-12.1". The large velcro strap keeps it firmly in place. Now my 10.1 inch Galaxy Note slides around a bit when it's not in the case. Which really isn't too bad as the walls of the case are softly padded. 

As the Galaxy Note 10.1 is so thin there is plenty of room so I added a notebook and also put the tablet back in it's sleeve case. This made the strap nice and snug on the tablet.

The only other pocket is a smaller zipper pocket on the front. Inside of which is 4 smaller pockets. One being a large loose pocket in the back. Perfect for holding small notebooks or charger cords. Then there are 3 pockets on the front of that one. Starting on the left you have a small loose pocket which holds my portable hard drive perfectly. The next has a velcro cover. I put my hard drive usb cable in it but it seems the perfect size for an mp3 player. The last pocket actually has a large loose pocket with a small mesh pocket on it. The only thing missing is a pen/pencil holder. But otherwise this is an amazing case.

Also on the outside is two small hand straps and an adjustable shoulder strap for comfortable transportation. Overall this is a great case that makes travelling with my Galaxy Note 10.l a breeze.

Product Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Case

I recently had the opportunity to review a case for my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It's a simple, black book-like case with an elastic strap to keep it closed. On the inside left is 3 slots to use as a stand for the tablet. Allowing for different viewing angles depending on your preferences. On the right is the spot for the tablet. It's a sleeve that fits snugly to prevent the tablet from moving and has a velcro closure.

The sleeve has cut-outs for all the ports, speakers and cameras. The sleeve actually rotates to allow viewing in either landscape or portrait modes. On top of that the sleeve is secured to the case via a snap button. Which can be removed for a more comfortable experience. Because the case can fold backwards but the spine is stiff and it makes holding it awkward but its much nicer to just unbutton the sleeve.

Product Review: Amazon Kindle Touch Gift Pack

A while back I reviewed a Klevercase for the Kindle Touch. I've had the opportunity to test out another case for the Kindle Touch. Or I should say a Gift Pack. This pack comes with a leather case, a silicon sleeve, a car charger, a screen protector, and a light.

The leather case has little straps in the four corners to hold the Kindle firmly in place and the inside cover has a small pouch/pocket for holding a few pieces of paper. It has a small magnetic strip to hold the case closed when not is use.

I really liked the silicon case the best. It was actually the same as the part in the Klevercase. It just has a nice feel too it. The back is slightly rough so it doesn't become slippery. Also on the back is two slots for the speakers if you use text-to-speech or listen to Audible books on your Kindle. The bottom also has a slot for easy access to the power button, headphone jack, and usb.

With the massively long battery life of the Kindle Touch the car charger isn't all that important. Unless of course you forgot to charge your Kindle before a long trip. But the cord is plenty long enough to allow reading while the battery is charging.

Now the idea of a screen protector is nice. Who wouldn't want a dust free reading experience? My only problem is the darned things are impossible to put on. Now it says that it is anti-airbubble. But I don't think that is possible. There were a couple dozen  little bubbles all over the screen. Which of course made it impossible to see anything. While that is a huge problem the leather case is close able and will keep out the dust anyways.

The light is great! I always find myself waking up at night and not being able to fall back asleep. So I'd have to turn on a light to read. But no more! This light is bright. I know Amazon says that the screens on these Kindles are readable even in sunlight. But with any light at the wrong angle it does glare. Though of course its easy to just tilt it a little. This entire gift pack is worth it for just the light. Plus you get a couple cases and a car charger. The only thing I don't like about the light is that it takes three AAA batteries. It's not really the amount of batteries but the space they take up. The back of the light's clip is bulky and slightly awkward to hold. Though I clipped it right to the Kindle itself and not the case or anything. The back of the clip is wide and flat. So it's just as easy to leave it on a table and let the light do it's thing.
