Nanowrimo

National Novel Writing Month or Nanowrimo is about 3 weeks away. For a change I am actually preparing a month early. So by the time November 1st I'll have everything from my idea to my supplies to my motivation built up.

This is my 4th year attempting Nanowrimo and I hope I will actually be able to finish it this year! The best of done is about 20% of the goal.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Nanowrimo it's a month long (November) challenge where the participants attempt to write 50,000 words. That's an average of 1,667 words a day! Which may not seem like a lot but it is. Mix in everything else you go through on a day to day basis and it can get hectic.

Sadly I'll be moving around the end of this month/early November so that's really going to add some craziness to the mix. Plus Thanksgiving will make work even crazier. I suppose I could try to write a bit more than the daily goal at the beginning of the month in case I don't get much of a chance to write around the holiday.

I'll try to make frequent updates on here. Perhaps my daily word count. As another way to keep myself motivated.

If anyone reading is also participating in Nanowrimo please feel free to comment or email. We could support each other! Good luck!

  1. I'm too scared of failure, and too devoid of good ideas, to have ever tried NaNoWriMo. =[ Good luck to you though!

  2. Thanks! I feel the same way. But I dive in head first anyways!

  3. Even if you don't get 100%, at least you're giving it a shot. Do you plan to start something new or build off a previous one?

  4. Yeah that's true. If I only happen to get 50% done that's still 25,000 words toward a potential book.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you're not supposed to use anything that's already been started. Granted that there are no rules or stipulations and its only done as fun I think you're supposed to start a brand new idea.

That being said, last year I actually worked on a story I had started a few months before November. It'd be smart to build off one that I already have because I'd have more of it done. Perhaps all of it. Since about 6 months ago I said I would have my book written by my 25th birthday, which was about 2 weeks ago and no book written.
